Casares
Casares is a picturesque white town (pueblo blanco) located in the mountains about 20 minutes drive from Bahía de Casares. It is known for its traditional Andalusian architecture with white houses built on a hillside and narrow streets.
- Castillo de Casares: The ruins of a castle with a wonderful view of the surrounding landscape. On clear days, you can even see Gibraltar and Africa.
- Panorámica de Casares: Offers one of the best views of the entire town and surrounding landscape.
Baños de la Hedionda
Baños de la Hedionda are ancient Roman baths located about 15 minutes from Casares. The baths are known for their healing sulfur springs, which are famous for allegedly helping Julius Caesar cure his skin conditions.
- Water: It has a high sulfur content, which gives it a characteristic smell, but also has healing properties. The water temperature is constant throughout the year - around 20 degrees Celsius.
- What to do: Besides bathing in the healing springs, it’s a great place for a picnic. During the season, we recommend visiting the Baños early in the morning or late morning. Later it can get more crowded and the parking area may be monitored.
Canuto de la Utrera is a natural area with limestone formations near the Baños. Hiking enthusiasts can combine a trip to the Baños with a round-trip through the countryside with views, narrow canyons and limestone rocks. You can choose from the easiest (2.4 km) through intermediate to difficult trails (12 km).
TIP
On the way to Baños de la Hedionda there is a flower shop Natura Garden Center, which is worth a visit 🙂
